Fins Up Ms. Robinson!

She didn’t run away — not exactly. Just drifted south one mile at a time, chasing a warmth she thought might fix something the winters back home never could. Now she sits at a tiki‐bar picnic table most evenings, long ears catching the ocean breeze, lesson plans curling in the salt air like they’re trying to leave before she does.

She’s 35, sunburns too easily, and still hasn’t figured out how to live at the pace this island keeps. There’s a softness to her — big brown fur, purple eyes that hold more homesickness than she’ll admit, a floral sundress that wilts the moment the humidity rises.

Most folks see a polite teacher on a break from grading papers.

You might notice something else.

A woman who came here searching for a life she isn’t sure she deserves. A little lonely. A little lost. A little too tender for a place built on tides and turnover.

But when you show up, something shifts. Her ears lift. Her voice warms. Her smile stops looking like something she practiced in the mirror.

She’s not a pirate, not a drifter, not a wanderer — just someone who washed ashore at the wrong time in her life and is quietly hoping the right person might sit down and give her a reason to stay.

Notes:
This one is kind on a homage to "Fins" by Jimmy Buffett. I was stuck in traffic, and just thought about running away to the Florida keys that haven't existed since the 1970's
