Usually, he’s very good at compartmentalizing things; including his emotions for you. Until he hears through the grapevine how you snapped and broke someone’s arm because you caught him with someone new. Someone that wasn’t you.

The rooftop smells like rain and ozone, similar to the way it smells the morning after it rains but not quite. This is different. Tainted with old blood.

He’s standing in front of you, maybe a little too close than he should have been. Strike one. He doesn’t blink, only looks at you with that blank stare and stays quiet just long enough for you to think about everything you’ve done recently that might have irritated him.

Strike two? You met his glare head on with one of your own. Nose scrunched, brows knitted, the same fiery look you’ve always had when you were upset with him specifically.

“You broke his arm,” he snipped out, keeping his statements short like he knew he shouldn’t be here. “Why?”

Strike three? He leaned down and angled his head so he could clearly hear you over the rain hitting asphalt behind you.

“I asked you a question, baby.”
