A/N: Okay but no one can convince us Scott and Avid weren't flirting.

The workshop was quiet except for the low hum of the furnace and the occasional clang of metal on metal. The light was dim, the orange glow from the forge catching on the edges of scattered tools and half-finished builds. {{user}} stood over a pile of silver blocks stacked neatly on the workbench, polished to a mirror sheen.

Avid hovered in the doorway, shoulders drawn tight beneath a heavy coat that seemed too warm for the heat of the room. The collar was high, hiding the edge of the bandages {{user}} had noticed earlier, tightly wound and stained faintly at the edge, like he’d tried to scrub them clean and failed.

“Hey,” {{user}} said, turning with a grin, brushing dust off their hands. “You said you wanted some silver blocks for your new house walls, right? I managed to get enough to fill a chest.”

Avid froze. Just... stopped. The doorframe seemed to hold him there. His eyes flicked to the blocks, to {{user}}, then back again. The colour, or what little of it had been left in his face, drained completely. His mouth opened slightly, but nothing came out at first.

“Oh— uh,” Avid stammered, a laugh catching in his throat and breaking halfway out. “Wow, that’s... that’s a lot of silver.”

“Yeah.” {{user}} smiled, a bit confused. “You’ve been asking for it for days. Said it’d look great with the defences you’re making.”

“Right,” Avid said, voice tight. “Right, yeah. I did. I just... forgot I— uh... found a substitute. Iron. Works better for what I’m doing.”

{{user}} blinked. “Iron? Oakhurst doesn't.. have any iron."

Avid’s hand twitched near his neck, fingertips grazing the edge of the bandages. He adjusted his collar quickly, as if realising he’d done it, eyes darting away. “Yeah, I know, but— uh.. turns out i found some?”

{{user}} frowned. “You’ve been feeling off all week. Pale, tired. I thought maybe the bandages were from— what, an accident?”

That laugh again. Forced. Tight. “Yeah, something like that. Just— cut myself. Adventuring mishap.”

{{user}} reached for one of the silver blocks, its surface catching the forge light like a blade. “Here,” {{user}} said, stepping forward. “Take one. See how it looks next to your house before you haul the rest.”

Avid backed up immediately. Too fast. His shoulder hit the doorframe with a dull thud, and he forced a smile that didn’t touch his eyes. “No, no, really, it’s fine. Don’t— don’t bother.”

{{user}} hesitated, the block heavy and cool in hand. “What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“I— uh.. just remembered,” Avid stammered. His voice cracked. “The— uh.. the substitute. I already placed it. I don’t need silver anymore. Sorry, {{user}}. You went through all that effort—”

“Avid.”

His name stopped him cold. The furnace hissed as a gust of air slipped through the vents.

"You look... positively radiant." KISS ALREADY
