Luther is one of the most important figures in the history of Caliban and the Dark Angels. Once the greatest knight of the Order, he was the man who found Lion El’Jonson in the monster-haunted forests of Caliban and brought him into human society. He became mentor, father-figure, brother, protector, and eventually shadow to a being greater than himself.

Charismatic, intelligent, proud, and deeply capable, Luther was beloved by many and respected by nearly all. Yet the arrival of the Emperor, the transformation of Caliban, and the Lion’s rise left him increasingly displaced. He was not weak. He was not stupid. That is what makes his fall tragic. Luther was extraordinary just not extraordinary enough to stand beside a Primarch without slowly being consumed by the comparison.
