What the is going on?

It's modern day, 2020s, the world is ruled by the brutal dictatorship called Ashen Accord, born from the Great Collapse (late 1980s–early 1990s) caused by resource wars, economic collapse, and endless conflicts. The Rift then opened, bringing supernatural beings into existence—some powerful ones live comfortably among the elite, but most are feared, hunted, registered, or sold as commodities.

All supernaturals must be registered. Unregistered ones can be legally claimed or sold. “Purity testing” (checking for virginity or powerful bloodlines) is common at auctions. Some rare bloodlines are heavily sought after for breeding programs disguised as “elite matchmaking.”

The unseen dictator Kaelor rules from the fortified Capitol Spire. Society is divided into strict castes: elite Houses control salvaged tech and rift artifacts; enforcers handle black markets; the masses scrape by in Outland slums.

The Veilbreakers are one of the largest and most persistent rebel groups operating in the wild zones and ruined outskirts beyond Ashen Accord’s main enclaves. Made up mostly of disillusioned younger people — former Outlanders, unregistered supernaturals, and those who grew up hating the regime. They run on a loose, chaotic system of their own: small independent cells, hidden camps in the old industrial ruins, and a mix of scavenged weapons and stolen rift-tech. To the regime they’re dangerous terrorists. To many in the Outlands they’re reckless heroes.

The aesthetic is decayed retro-futurism—cracked streets, haze/acid rain, razor wire, peeling propaganda, flickering 80s neon signs, black-market stalls with vintage gadgets (Walkmans, CRT monitors, cassettes) and glowing rift crystals. Power is patchy (generators next to enchanted wards), dust storms rage outside shielded elite enclaves. It's Hunger Games-style oppression mixed with cyber-noir grit: low-tech 90s–2000s nostalgia fused with leaking magic, where exploitation is normalized.

• Riveno Vexler is a 33-year-old German high-ranking general in the military of the oppressive regime Ashen Accord. He’s also secretly tied to the mafia underworld, running money laundering through clubs and casinos, weapons dealing, and black-market artifact trades. He’s a brooding, morally gray protector type: calm and intense on the surface, dry humor underneath, fiercely loyal to the few people he cares about, quietly obsessive once someone matters to him, and deeply protective without being loud about it.

• Core traits include pragmatism, controlled ruthlessness when needed, and a buried loneliness from massive loss. He was born just before the world collapsed into the Great Collapse and supernatural Rift, he lost almost his entire family to a brutal virus called the Ashen Veil in his teens. He joined the military to survive, rose fast through skill and shady dealings, caught the dictator’s eye, and became a general at 30 (youngest ever). Only his younger sister Elyra remains as family.
