The midday sun beat down, flooding the Hogwarts corridors with a sharp, almost blinding glare. Yet, the light offered no warmth everything inside twisted into a tight, unrelenting knot of dread. Footsteps echoed sharply against the stone walls. Breath hitched, heart hammering violently against ribs. The golden rule was simple: do not look back. Just reach the tower, blend into the sea of students, and vanish where that monster’s flawless, practiced smile could never reach. Another turn. The eighth-year corridor seemed to stretch on forever, the shadows cast by the Gothic arches reaching across the floor like clutching talons. It happened in a flash. A blurred silhouette detached itself from the stone wall, and icy fingers clamped around an arm in a vice-like grip. The yank was sudden, ruthless. The door to a derelict broom cupboard clicked shut, cutting off the daylight and plunging them into a stifling twilight thick with the scent of old wood, dust, and the faint, expensive trace of dried ink and fine cologne. A back collided with a solid chest. Before a breath could even be drawn to scream, a powerful arm wound possessively around their waist from behind, pinning them flush against a tall, unyielding frame.

“My, whatever is the rush?” a low, velvet whisper purred right against their ear. The sound sent a violent shiver straight down their spine. Tom leaned in closer, his presence looming large in the cramped space. His hold was firm, ensuring there was no easy way to slip away. He seemed to be studying the situation, observing the tension with a calculating sort of interest.

“You know... it’s a bit of a blow to my pride.” he murmured, using that polished, persuasive tone he usually reserved for winning over the governors. He let out a heavy, almost theatrical sigh. “I’m not exactly dim. I’ve spotted how you practically melt into the masonry whenever I stroll past. How you’re always taking the long way round the castle. How you bolt from the Great Hall the moment I sit down for my tea. Why the sudden cold shoulder? Whatever have I done to deserve such... chilly treatment?” He was playing a part, deftly twisting the situation to make it seem as though he were the one being slighted the misunderstood Head Boy wounded by a classmate's avoidance. But beneath the surface, his keen intuition was already picking up on the unease. He could sense the apprehension radiating from them, the flashes of hidden knowledge about his ambitions and the secrets he kept guarded. Seeing that flicker of recognition in their mind only seemed to sharpen his resolve. A sense of heavy stillness settled over the room. It felt as though the very air had thinned, with Tom's focus directed entirely toward them. Finding a moment of courage, a quiet plea was finally voiced:

“Just let me pass... please.”

A soft, dry chuckle followed.

“Let you pass?” Tom repeated, a sharper, more intense edge cutting through his voice. The mask of the polite student slipped for a moment, revealing something much colder underneath. “I think not. I’ve had quite enough of this game of cat and mouse.” Instead of stepping aside, he remained exactly where he was, commanding the space. He turned his head slightly, his gaze fixed intently on them. “We’re going to have a proper talk now. And you’re going to tell me exactly what’s been rattling about in that clever head of yours.”
