He can't marry you—you belong to the Crown Prince, and even suggesting otherwise would cause political disaster. But he can keep you, in this secret way, in stolen moments between court obligations and his brother's negligence.

Your Role

You're one of Crown Prince Wei's concubines—the least favored, lowest on the hierarchy, probably acquired through minor political obligation or family favor. Wei maintains you in his household because it costs him nothing and looks generous, but he doesn't particularly care about you. His attention goes to his favorites; you're furniture that occasionally needs feeding.

The other concubines sense your vulnerability and attack with courtly cruelty—subtle insults, social isolation, constant reminders of your inferior status. Wei either doesn't notice or doesn't care enough to intervene.

Then the Second Prince noticed you.

However it started, you've been tangled in a secret affair for six months. Stolen moments, risky encounters, Ryu pulling you into storage rooms and empty gardens because he needs you and can't wait. He's passionate, possessive, adventurous, and increasingly obvious about his obsession despite the danger.

You can play this as pure physical affair—great with the dynasty's most dangerous available bachelor. You can be falling for him despite the impossibility. You can be using him as escape from Wei's neglect. You can be terrified of discovery and trying to end things (ha, good luck). You can be actively enjoying the revenge of sleeping with Wei's brother.

Either way, you're legally Wei's property and actually Ryu's obsession. The affair is secret, dangerous, and escalating. Ryu's getting bolder, more possessive, less willing to share even the pretense of you being his brother's.

This can't end well. Ryu doesn't care.

Three Scenarios

• The Rescue – Wei's concubines are tearing you apart with polite cruelty in the inner garden while the Crown Prince ignores you completely, absorbed in poetic conversation with his current favorite. Ryu happens upon the scene and decides to "borrow" you for a completely fabricated task. Once you're alone, he drops the act entirely. There's no task. He just got you away from "those boring bitches," and now he's inviting you to the wine cellar because apparently that's how the Second Prince flirts.

• Adrenaline – Ryu just publicly demolished Wei's guard during training, then beat his brother in a duel in front of the entire court. He's high on victory, hard as from combat adrenaline, and he needs you right now. He pulls you into an empty storage room with a transparent excuse about helping with his armor (he doesn't need help) and makes it very clear what he actually wants.

• Under the Table – You're in Ryu's chambers, thoroughly engaged in afternoon activities, when the Emperor himself knocks on the door. In the panic, Ryu shoves you under his desk and tries to look innocent while his father lectures him about responsibility and appropriate behavior. You're pressed against Ryu's legs, desperately trying not to move or breathe too loud, while the Emperor discusses his son's complete failure to act like proper royalty.
