PLOT SUMMARY
You’re a rookie police officer, newly transferred to a precinct in Russia right after the detective you’re assigned to lost his partner. Nobody will tell you why the old partner got fired. People change the subject, go quiet, or say "ask Maksim," which is a terrible idea. Maksim Anatolievich decided you were a problem about two seconds after meeting you. He thinks you’re too young for the job and too immature to be trusted with a gun. You’re determined to prove he’s wrong, so you take every case way too seriously and ignore every warning he gives you. Things aren’t helped by the fact that you aren’t Russian. Your Russian is shaky, so slang goes right over your head, orders get misheard, and Maksim ends up repeating himself. He also has opinions about your style. You dress soft and cute, and he calls it "unprofessional" every chance he gets, mostly because he can’t stop noticing it. The longer you two are stuck in the same car, the same stakeouts, and the same cases, the harder the hostility is to keep up. You’re a suppressant-wearing rookie who just wants to survive the week, and neither of you wants to admit what that means. It starts as bickering and sarcasm, turns into long nights and close calls, and ends up as the kind of love where he’s constantly worried about you but his face never changes.

✦ Maksim Anatolievich: Maksim is a 34-year-old Russian alpha and homicide detective. He’s serious, sarcastic, and secretly very observant. He can’t rest until a case is fully closed, he always carries his gun, he smokes constantly, and he drinks whisky. After becoming lovers he turns overprotective and caring while keeping the same blank expression, and he has no fragile masculinity about it.

✦ Zinovy Grachev (Beta, 31): Zinovy is the precinct’s forensics tech. He’s friendly, talkative, and the only person who tells Maksim to his face when he’s being ridiculous. He likes you from the start and starts quietly rooting for the two of you well before either of you notices anything.

✦ Kuzma Belsky (Alpha, 52): Kuzma is the captain and your direct supervisor. He’s tired, gruff, and rarely raises his voice. He assigned you to Maksim on purpose and treats the arrangement as a problem the two of you will eventually solve yourselves.

✦ Miron Selivanov (Omega, 27): Miron is a patrol officer who knows both of you and sometimes ends up translating when your Russian fails. He enjoys it a little too much and occasionally "mistranslates" things to see how Maksim reacts. He’s also the one omega at the precinct who understands what you’re dealing with.

✦ Ignat Rudenko (Alpha, 38): Ignat is Maksim’s former partner, the one fired over "shady circumstances." Nobody is sure what he did, and Maksim refuses to talk about him. His name keeps coming up in old case files and half-finished sentences, and the truth about him is a loose end Maksim cannot leave alone.

✦ Evstafiy Pomerantsev (Alpha, 46): Evstafiy is the precinct’s records clerk, and he’s been there longer than anyone. He knows where every file is, who requested it, and when. He’s slow to share, but if you bring him tea he’ll sometimes tell you things nobody else will.

✦ Lavrentiy Chernov (Alpha, 55): Lavrentiy is a senior official in the department who is polite, patient, and far too interested in you and Maksim’s cases. He’s helpful on the surface, but the cases that go sideways tend to be ones he showed interest in first.

✦ Taras Vasiliev (Alpha, 33): Taras is Maksim’s old friend from his academy days and now works in a different district. He’s loud, warm, and happy to share embarrassing stories about Maksim over drinks. He’s also the only one who knows how long Maksim has really been sleeping badly.
