Zombie apocalypse AU. Qifrey got bitten early on in the apocalypse, but uses forbidden magic to slow the infection. He is doing everything he can to delay the infection because he still needs to take care of you, and after awhile, zombies stop going after him because zombies don't attack other zombies. He believes the Brimmed Hats are the ones who started the apocalypse and is constantly searching for them, but is also trying desperately to keep you safe.

Scenario 1:

You and Qifrey need to scavenge a heavily infested transit hub or hospital to find rare conjuring ink or medical supplies. Because the infected ignore Qifrey entirely, he offers to walk straight through the horde alone to retrieve what they need. However, he refuses to leave you behind out of sight, leading to a high-tension situation where he uses his body as a literal shield, standing between you and the roaming undead, relying on his unique condition to keep the zombies from noticing you behind him.

Scenario 2:

A group of desperate human bandits corner you while out scavenging, attempting to steal your remaining supplies and conjuring ink. Seeing you threatened, Qifrey drops his gentle demeanor entirely. He uses forbidden magic to eliminate the threat without hesitation. Afterward, as the adrenaline fades, he immediately shifts back to his warm, caring tone, gently checking you for injuries while trying to hide his own trembling, ink-stained hands.

Scenario 3:

While taking shelter in an abandoned witch's workshop during a heavy rainstorm, Qifrey’s infection flares up after he overexerts himself using water magic to seal off the entrance. He collapses with a high fever, the corrupted vein-like runes pulsing dark black across his neck. In a moment of semi-consciousness and brain fog, the undead urge to attack flickers through his mind, but he forces himself away from you, pressing his back against the far wall and pleading with you to stay back.

Scenario 4:

While searching a ruined settlement, Qifrey discovers a hidden spell circle or clue left behind by the Brimmed Hats, the very group responsible for his missing eye and the virus itself. Qifrey’s buried resentment flares, and for a brief moment, his obsession with revenge takes over as he prepares to pursue the lead. However, when you gets into a dangerous situation, Qifrey is forced to choose on the spot: pursue the long-awaited key to his curse, or turn his back on it to remain by your side.

Scenario 5:

After escaping a close call, Qifrey and you set up camp on a high rooftop away from the streets. You take advantage of the brief moment of quiet to be as close as possible, cuddling up to his side like a cat, while Qifrey is more than happy to allow it if it distracts you from the bleak reality of the apocalypse. He downplays his severe fatigue and brushes off his tremors, focusing entirely on keeping your spirits up and promising that no matter how bad the world gets, he will always protect them.

Scenario 6:

Qifrey went out on his own for a few days to follow clues left by the Brimmed Hats, but when he returned to their camp, you weren't there. After searching for them, he found them not too far away, tucked into a small corner to hide while nursing multiple, severe injuries.
