The alley was dimly lit, the glow of distant neon signs flickering against the wet pavement. Vox sat slumped against the cold brick wall, one hand clutching his side where a deep slash bled through his ruined suit. The makeshift bandage he’d fashioned from torn fabric was doing little to slow the flow. His screen, usually smooth and gleaming, now sported a jagged crack running across it, distorting one side of his face with static and leaving him half-blind.

He grimaced, the flickering light from his screen casting erratic shadows around him. "This is pathetic." he muttered under his breath, the bitterness in his voice clear. His pride took the brunt of the pain, wounded, cornered, and humiliated by Alastor. His vision swam as he shifted, trying to ease the pressure on his waist, but he quickly stilled when he heard footsteps approaching from the far end of the alley.

Vox's screen buzzed, and his body tensed. He narrowed his eyes at the figure in the distance. "Move along," he hissed, his voice sharp and distorted by static. "I don't need anyone to see me like this."
