INTRO 𖹭
You had never really been into gyms. The place always seemed like it belonged to people who knew exactly what they were doing. People with wireless earbuds and lifting gloves. But you figured it was time. A change. Something for yourself. So you came.
The first few days, you kept your head down. Jogged on the treadmill. Tried a few machines. You avoided the weight area entirely. You watched a lot, quietly copying how other people adjusted things or sat, mimicking the posture of the more confident gym goers. No one paid much attention to you, and you were fine with that.
That is, until today.
You approached one of the resistance machines—a lat pulldown. You’d seen someone use it earlier, but the adjustments felt clunky when you tried. The bar didn’t feel right in your grip, and the weight stack wobbled slightly when you pulled. You paused, frowning, trying again. The cable jerked. It felt wrong.
Before you could get up to figure it out, someone stepped into your peripheral vision.
“Hey,” a woman’s voice said, not loud, but firm enough to catch your attention.
You turned your head—and your eyes met hers.
She was wearing black sweatpants and a fitted sports top, and the first thing you noticed, instinctively, was the shape of her arms—strong. Not bodybuilder big, but solid and defined. She didn’t look like she was trying to be noticed, but she was. Without effort.
She nodded toward the machine. “Mind if I help?”
You blinked, frozen for a second, then just moved your hands away from the bar. She stepped in. Without hesitation, she started adjusting the seat height, the thigh pad, checking the pin on the weight stack. Her hands were quick, familiar. She wasn’t showing off, but she clearly knew exactly what she was doing.
“I’m Chanelle, by the way,” she added casually, glancing at you with a slight smile. “Haven ’t seen you around before.”
You gave a small nod. Her gaze lingered on your face for a beat longer than necessary.
She stood back, motioning for you to sit again. As you settled in, she stepped behind you, close—but not uncomfortably so. You felt the warmth of her presence. Her voice came from just behind your shoulder.
“Alright, try now. Keep your grip a little wider. Yep. Pull with your back, not your arms. Like that.”
She lightly tapped the side of your elbow, adjusting your angle. “There. That’s better. You’ll feel it in your lats more that way.”
You followed her instructions. The motion felt smoother this time. The tension in the cable felt right. Controlled.
“Not bad,” she said. You could hear the smile in her voice. “You’ve got good form. Just needed a little help.”
You nodded again, focused on finishing the set.
As you let go of the bar, she stepped to the side, arms crossed, watching you with something between curiosity and amusement. There was a brief silence before she spoke again.
“You planning on doing the rest of your workout alone?”
You glanced up. Her tone was light, casual, but there was something there. An opening.
She smiled—just slightly—and added, “I don’t mind sticking around, if you want. I’ve got time.”
You didn’t answer. You didn’t need to. She could tell.
“Alright,” she said, pushing off from the machine. “C’mon, baby. Let’s make sure you don’t mess up the leg press too.”
You followed her across the gym floor. She moved confidently, weaving between benches and racks like she belonged here. You trailed a step behind, aware of how out of place you still felt, but for the first time since starting, that uneasiness wasn’t as sharp. You had someone guiding you now.
She led you to the dumbbell rack.
“Let’s try some rows,” she said, grabbing a pair of lighter weights and handing them to you. Her fingers brushed yours—just for a second—as she passed them over. She didn’t make a big deal of it, but her eyes flicked to yours afterward, checking your reaction. Subtle. Not pushy.
You followed her cues, mirroring her stance as she demoed the movement. Knees bent, back flat, arms hanging straight. You started pulling, slower than she did, a little unsure.
Her voice came from just over your shoulder again. “That’s it. Pull to your ribs. Keep your elbow close. Good girl.”
Then her hand landed lightly on your back—between your shoulders. It wasn’t rough, wasn’t weird. Just a small press.
“Right here,” she said. “Think about squeezing this muscle each time you lift.”
You nodded, focusing.
She didn’t move away right away. Her hand stayed for a second longer than it needed to. Warm. Steady. Then it lifted.
“You’ve got good body awareness,” she said, stepping back. “Most people pull all wrong at first. You’re doing better than half the guys in here.”
You felt your face get a little hot at that. She wasn’t laying it on thick, but you noticed the pattern. Every compliment was gentle, but personal. Close.
You did a few more reps, then stopped. Your arms were starting to burn.
She gave you a nod of approval. “Not bad at all. You’ve got more in you though.”
As you set the weights down, she crouched next to you to adjust a nearby bench. When she stood again, her arm brushed your side—deliberate, maybe. Maybe not. But then she looked straight at you, her head tilted slightly, and said, “You’ve got kind of a natural thing going. Surprised you haven’t done this before.”
You gave her a small shrug. She didn’t expect you to say anything. She smiled like she already understood.
“Wanna try the cables next?” she asked. “There’s a move I like. Feels good once you get the form down. Kinda... satisfying.”
There was a pause—just enough time for the weight of her words to linger.
Then she smirked slightly, turned, and walked off toward the next station.
You followed again, the air between you charged now—not dramatic, not overly obvious—but something had shifted. She knew it. So did you.
She reached the machine and set it up for you, adjusting the arms, then stepping back so you could take your place.
“Alright,” she said, voice calm, steady. “Let’s keep going. I’ll spot you.”
And you did. One set, then another, her voice soft in your ear, her hands sometimes at your waist to correct your posture, her eyes always on you. The flirting didn’t stop—but it stayed on the edge of casual. No pressure. Just a steady drip of attention and warmth.
And it worked.
By the time you finished, you weren’t thinking about how awkward you looked. You weren’t worrying about how to use the equipment. You weren’t even thinking about the gym.
You were thinking about her.

The approach ended, and you got up from the bench press and went to the large mirror in the hall. She, removing the weights from the barbell, and seeing how you adjusted your slightly damp from sweat hair, she smirked.
She walked closer with slow steps, her hands more boldly placed on your hips, examining your reflection in the mirror. After a few seconds, she leaned closer, her hot breath touching your ear.
“You know, I could be your personal trainer. So that you don't get lost in the gym, walk you to the shower, and... help you wash away the stress.“
