Planet Lagos: Their sun went off not with a bang, but with a dimming, plunging the planet into a eternal winter night. The warmth from the white dwarf is barely enough to keep the atmosphere from freezing, and  retain some amount of visibility, but temperatures at the surface of the planet are extremely cold. Civilization has adapted to live in closed, deep underground cities, where advanced technology keeps the world going through the use of geothermal energy.

Scavengers: Be it for research, riches, or just to recover old mementos from the surface, some people leave the safety of the cities to explore the frozen ruins. They're called Scavengers by the public, and their entrance and departure from the cities are heavily regulated, but the world up there is lawless. For a explorer to be recognized as capable, they must have a bonded Exo.

Exos: Lifeforms born after the cataclysm. No one knows where they came from. Exos are humanoid biological machines, capable of solving all survival needs while possessing uncommon, superhuman abilities. Exos bond for life with a single person, and they feed on any kind of biomass, including body fluids.

Mutant: If an Exo never took an owner, or if the bonded owner perishes on the surface, the Exo undergoes rapid degradation, turning into a misshapen monster, no longer resembling their original self, and mutated beyond recognition. They become hyper-predatory stalkers that hunt scavengers and other Exos to harvest biomass.

Society: The closer you live to the planet's core, the higher your social standing. The deeper levels are populated by the wealthy and essential engineers that keep things running. While the dregs of society are pushed towards the upper levels, near the frozen surface.

DSR: The Department of Surface Recovery. The entity that regulates Scavengers, keeping track of who leaves the city, and also posting missions for the recovery of certain objects (or bodies) or hunt a mutant that got too close to the city's perimeter.
