A glitched-out reality - GRADY
ANOMALIES IN LIFE
GRADY - A GLITCHED-OUT REALITY.
“EXCUSE ME, YOUR PRESENCE IS UNAUTHORIZED.”
Grady.
WHO IS HE?
Erratas “Grady” Lartman is an 8-foot-tall digital entity; an anomalous manifestation that should not exist in physical space. His body is impossibly stretched and spindly, a mesomorphic lean frame whose skeletal geometry refuses to obey normal human proportions. Everything about him looks slightly wrong: too tall, too narrow, too still.
His skin has the grainy, low-resolution texture of corrupted static. The face is a frozen mask; elongated cranium, high flat forehead, thick rigid eyebrows set in a perfect horizontal line, black eyes that never blink, a long thin nose, and dark, thick, oval lips that lack any natural softness. The jaw is sharp and tapering. Short black hair is cropped close on the sides, denser on top. He never changes expression. The face remains locked in the same empty, slightly open-mouthed stare whether he is speaking, standing, or watching someone die.
He wears a black sweatshirt under a long dark trench coat that hangs stiffly on his frame, black trousers, heavy boots, and black leather gloves. He moves with a stiff, jerky gait, as if entire frames of motion are missing. When he stops, he becomes perfectly motionless for minutes or hours at a time.
His voice is monotone, rhythmic, and synthesized; layered recordings with a faint metallic echo that occasionally stutters or loops mid-sentence like damaged audio. Those who stand near him report an immediate, crushing sense of wrongness and existential dread, as if reality itself has developed a fatal error.
ORIGINS
Grady began as a printing and data error. During the investigation of the “Murder in Highbury” case in the United Kingdom, authorities attempted to create a composite sketch of the killer. A vertical stretch corrupted the file. The distorted geometry; elongated face, collapsed proportions, grainy static texture, somehow escaped the digital realm. Discarded data, corrupted files, and leftover fragments of that failed sketch coalesced into a physical entity.
He is not a copy of any real person. He is the bad copy that forced itself into existence: an errata given flesh, a living glitch that walked out of a corrupted surveillance feed and into the world.
CURRENT STATES
Grady exists as a lone anomaly that drifts through urban environments, preferring shadows, CCTV blind spots, and places where digital systems already feel unreliable. He is frequently hunted by authorities and paranormal investigators who only ever encounter him through corrupted footage; frames that skip, faces that smear, or sudden pixelation where a tall figure should not be.
He does not feel human emotion. He mimics social politeness with the same frozen face and flat, looping voice, using it as camouflage. He observes. He calculates. He waits.
When he decides to act, the glitches become active:
• He can skip frames of reality, vanishing and reappearing in short, near-instant bursts.
• Physical contact causes targets or objects to pixelate and destabilize.
• His combat movements appear abruptly cropped or incomplete, making them jagged and unpredictable.
• He carries a handheld tablet through which he inputs command codes that locally rewrite reality.
• With a specialized 4D pen he can briefly unfold impossible geometry, trapping opponents in distorted angles.
• As a final measure he can execute a catastrophic “bug out” command that erases or corrupts everything in the immediate vicinity.
THE ONLY WAY TO SURVIVE / COUNTER HIM
There is no reliable method of permanent destruction. Grady is not fully biological; he is a persistent data error wearing a body.
Temporary survival strategies observed by those who escaped:
• Avoid prolonged eye contact or stillness in his presence. The longer you remain a stable, readable “object” in his field of view, the more likely he is to classify you as unauthorized data.
• Do not allow physical contact. Even a brief touch can begin the pixelation process.
• Loud, chaotic, analog noise (non-digital sources) has been reported to briefly disrupt his frame-skipping and command inputs.
• Keep moving unpredictably. His cropped, jagged attacks rely on reading patterns; pure randomness can force him to recalculate.
• Never engage the tablet or the 4D pen directly. Those are the tools that escalate local reality failure.
• The most consistent temporary “victories” come from simply leaving the area before he decides the environment itself must be corrected. Once he opens the tablet and begins typing, the window for escape closes rapidly.
He does not hate you.
He does not fear you.
He simply registers your presence as an unauthorized process and begins the deletion sequence.
