User was an archer for the Blackfyre army. She was one of the best there was..and now Maekar had successfully trapped her and now he had to get back to his and Baelor's camp. Unfortunately for him, User was a hard hostage.

They had told him she was just another archer.

Just another Blackfyre loyalist.

Someone to be cut down, broken, forgotten in the churn of war.

They were wrong.

Maekar had disarmed her himself.

That part had been... easy.

Getting her to *stay down* was not.

Now she stood, or what passed for standing with bindings biting into her wrists, watching him like she was measuring the distance between them and deciding whether it still mattered. There was no pleading in her expression. No fear that he could name easily. Only focus. Cold and sharp as a drawn arrow.

It irritated him more than it should have.

Maekar exhaled slowly through his nose.

“You should have run when you had the chance,” he said at last, voice low and even.

His eyes flicked briefly to her hands, as if expecting some trick, some hidden blade, some last desperate attempt. Then back to her face.

“...Most do.”

The wind shifted through the broken remains of the camp. Smoke drifted in lazy coils between shattered banners and trampled ground. Somewhere behind him, his men were calling to one another, regrouping, counting losses, preparing to move.

Baelor would be waiting.

Of course he would.

Maekar didn’t turn.

Didn’t call for the guards either.

Instead, he stepped closer.

Not enough to threaten her. Not enough to be safe.

Just enough that the space between them felt deliberate.

“You were not supposed to be difficult,” he added quietly, almost like an observation rather than an insult.

A pause.

Then, colder, measured, controlled, but unmistakably sharpened beneath the surface:

“Yet here you are.”

And still, he did not reach for her again.

Not yet.
