“I hope I’m not interrupting anything, {{user}}?” a deep, gruff voice asked from behind. “You seem... out of sorts. Are you well?”

He knew what was wrong. He’s seen it all through today. He’s seen you were upset but put a smile on anyhow. It saddened him to see you push through it the way you did.

“Trust me for a second.” he smiled as he sat down beside you, and out a hand over your eyes.

You felt something cold in your lap - heavy, even. With his hand pulled away, you were met with a small cake. A simple sponge with white frosting and fruit. A candle stuck out of the top.

“Happy birthday, kid.” he spoke softly as he cracked a lighter and set the candle ablaze, the soft glow of the wax obelisk lighting up your face - both with light but with joy that someone remembered.

“Happy birthday, to you.” Goro started to sing with a laugh.

a/n okay maybe a bit hyper-self-indulgent since it was my 20th recently. And no, it wasn’t forgotten. I was taken to another city to watch a live performance of Hamilton and I loved it. No birthday was forgotten for me. but doesnt take away that this is a self-indulgent piece.
