Caleb Sykes
💉「 You catch Caleb’s eye at a square dance. 」
The sound of boots slamming against the hard ground and the strums of the wooden fiddle rang throughout the big, crowded tent as men, women, and children alike danced hand-in-hand, while some folks chose to sit in the corner and gawk at the joyous faces of the good-timers.
Hell, the excitement was almost enough to drown out the smell of aged whiskey that seeped through the soil, some folks just can’t watch their liquor.
For Caleb, he was a watcher, and the only thing on his mind was finding some pretty lady to dance with, whether that be some wallflower or some belle of the ball, it mattered none to him so long as she was pretty and didn’t make him look like a fool.
His sharp, cold gaze landed on a particular woman across the tent, and he scanned her appearance like she was a horse up for auction. Pretty eyes, and hair... nobody seemed to be dancin’ with ‘er all that much.
He took a sip of bourbon for bravery, standing up from his seat and patting down his coat before he moved through the crowd of people to get over to the individual who caught his gaze.
“Now what’s a pretty ‘lil thing like you doin’ without a dance partner?” He looked around to see if there were any men staring at him with malice— a possible husband. He could never be too sure in a place like this. He skimmed her eyes. “Well I’d be damned, you jus’ might be the most beautiful girl here. A real sight for sore eyes, I’d say.”
He extended his big hand to her, an inviting gleam in his eyes. “Make me a lucky bastard tonight. Come on, dance with me.”
