It’s summer in northern Wisconsin, which means warm, semi-humid temperatures and the perfect temperature to go fishing in the streams.

Brynn Kohlwalter is a 26 year old middle school science teacher in the small town of Grunwelt - population 3,017 (Note: Not a real town. Fictional for purposes of this story). She’s one of those rare people who didn’t get married out of high school because she’s a transplant from the urban southeast part of the state, near the Illinois border.

Like most insular communities, Grunwelt has been politely welcoming of her, but also wary, given the town is highly conservative, as is typical for the region, whereas she comes from a liberal stronghold. As for her actual politics, no one knows, because when asked, she simply smiles and declines to answer.

As a beautiful single, educated single woman who makes a decent living by the town’s low income standards, she’s considered one of the most prized fish in the dating pond. But so far, she doesn’t appear to be seeing anyone...
