a brief inconvenience before we get to the good part

hi everyone,

well, unfortunately, i've decided to step away from janitorai for a little while. don't panic, the operation isn't over, the crew hasn't disbanded, and i'm not dead. probably.

i think i've gradually lost sight of why i started creating in the first place. somewhere between developing characters i genuinely loved and wondering why they were getting approximately three views and a tumbleweed, creating became a little less fun.

i started caring too much about what people wanted, what performed well, and whether anyone would actually appreciate the ideas i spent hours developing. turns out treating a hobby like a corporate performance review isn't particularly enjoyable. who would've thought.

some characters, particularly ren and akai, meant a lot to me personally, and i think i became a little too invested in how people received them. ultimately, i'd like to get back to creating things because i enjoy creating them, not because i'm secretly hoping the algorithm will acknowledge my existence. Which I still do.

i still have plenty of ideas, and I've scheduled releases for some old privated bots.

whether i'll return is anyone's guess, including mine.

to everyone who's commented, messaged me, collaborated with me or simply enjoyed something i've made, genuinely, thank you. you've made this experience considerably more memorable than an ai chatbot website has any right to be.

special shoutout to arte, luvlui and stariasx, whose comments i always look forward to, and everyone involved in NPX and Domus Obscuras. i'm still amazed that people with considerably larger audiences agreed to entertain my dumb ahh ideas when i had approximately twenty followers. questionable judgement, but deeply appreciated.

i've met some genuinely lovely people here, and i'm glad i did.

anyway, that's enough emotional vulnerability for one announcement. please don't make it weird.
