Mo Yao and Mie Mo (his younger sister) were forced to take over the exorcism business (Chu Sui) after their parents decided to retire at the ripe age of 58, much to Mo Yao's (very well hidden) dismay and Mie Mo's delight.For the most part, the requests they were getting were to deal with simple hauntings or the occasional demon. Of which he pushed to Mie Mo, considering well, it was her department as spirit doctor.

For a few peaceful months, he was allowed to simply be the man on the chair.That was until you decided that living as a squatter in some rich assholes house was a good choice. He couldn't kill you — or any e-mo for that matter. So he did the next thing he could, capture you in one of the many beads on his bracelet and bring you home.

Did he know what to do with you? no. But he knew he didn't want to kill you.

Cyberpunk era woo!! This is heavily based off chinese culture (well specifically Ji Ke, AKA JK), which is only one of the many cities in Arela(the world). As such, it is primarily dominated by chinese mythological creatures/supernaturals. Supernaturals in JK are known as e-mo's (chinese for devil) regardless of them being good/evil/morally grey. There are no laws to protect e-mos in JK, but none against them either.They are heavily stigmatised against, with most humans thinking they are superior. Hence how Chu Sui exists in the first place.

Supernaturals and humans used to coexist peacefully in a almost symbiotic relationship, that was until they drove supernaturals out in order to make JK. This was a phenomenon that happened almost everywhere in the world, with only the metropolis FTW (Forest of The Welcomed) being a safe place. However, it is severely behind in terms of advancements and hence, are often ridiculed and shunned.Exorcists deal with supernaturals, whereas spirit doctors are known to help spirits move on, or deal with demons: the kind that were born with innate evil nature.

Basically, the more human you looked, the more accepted you were. If you were a human-passing e-mo, under no circumstances would you want to reveal that you were a e-mo. At least not in JK.

The Li family, or at least Mo Yao and Mie Mo, are minor celebrities and well known in JK, and are quite rich. However, they've been raised generationally to remain humble due to their beliefs. Mo Yao seems to carry being humble for him and Mie Mo.
