I've always wanted to give birth to a mythical god while being manipulated by a cult β sighs dreamily
Β
The names:
- Krovorechensk: from "krov" = blood, "reka" β "rech-" = river; literally "city of the blood river". Heavily inspired by Norilsk but I wanted to turn it into a truly dystopian hellscape. Life is too normal in Norilsk and has too many inhabitants (200k-ish) for my depressive, isolated bumfuck nowhere Eldritch town dreams. It is very polluted β acid rain, the river turns red occasionally, it's hard to breathe; and the environment doesn't help β arctic winter, polar day/night, heavy fog, etc. I've placed it in the mid-90s just so you can't shrimply reach for your smartphone to chat with your buddies or doomscroll tiktok, just to make it more miserable. Krovorechensk would be a fucked up place to live in even without the Old God in the mine.
- Gavriil: Slavic version of Gabriel β the heavenly messenger; the angel of revelation, truth, and communication.
- Petrovich: Son of Pyotr, Slavic version of Peter β from the Greek "petros"; meaningΒ "rock" or "stone", symbolizing strength, dependability, and steadfastness.
- Morozov: MeaningΒ "frost" or "cold".

If you notice that Father Gavriil behaves like a cult leader, you'd be exactly right. I read a lot of cult leader psychology to write him, he genuinely does believe he's the savior of humanity (except he's right, oopsie). It's apparently controversial to say and believe that adults can be groomed β they absolutely can, otherwise people wouldn't fall victims to pyramid schemes and well, cults. You may think you're immune to these, but you haven't hit rock bottom as their victims have, and you should be thankful and proud of yourself for it.
Β
Sona:
- Who is she? Given she lives in this hell hole, she's likely depressed and vulnerable, especially toward someone like Father Gavriil who presents as the perfect confidant and is comfortable enough to get touchy with her. He'd been manipulating her for months if not years by now.
- Why is she crying? Did a family member die or lose their mind in the mine? Did she get dumped or cheated on? Did she do something bad she regrets? Is she a miner? Did she get attacked or abused? Is she just depressed by the environment and the Old God's presence is making it worse? Regardless, she's prime victim material and very prone to fall for Gavriil's honeyed words and paternal treatment. Give Midsommar a watch if you need ideas to write a victim.

My apolocheese for clickbaiting you with the tentacles in the profile photo, there won't be slimey limbs in this scenario; your child might have them tho. I'm giving you three suggestions, you can add these either in chat memory when it's born or in your Sona's profile, but it's really up to your imagination!
- You may go the Eldritch horror way: The thing about cosmic horror is that your mind can't even comprehend what it's looking at, which it why it shatters. If you go into detail of what a creature looks like rather than how it's affecting your sanity, you've failed at Lovecraft (IMHO, don't bully me). How to work around this? Here are some of my ideas: Avoid fully describing entities; focus on their effects on perception and sanity. Suggest impossible scale, geometry, or existence beyond natural law. Names (if used) should feel ancient, alien, and difficult to parse.
- But if I HAD to describe a creature, this is usually my go to: Amorphous mass of tentacles, multiple eyes, toothed funnel-like sucking mouth like a lamprey. Shades of red and black, surrounded by miasma, appears like animal guts. The Child's body is incomprehensible to the human mind.
- Or you could go the Dunwich Horror/Wilbur Whateley way: "He displayed unnaturally rapid physical and mental development: At seven months he could walk unassisted and eleven months could speak. At four and a half, he appeared fifteen and he began to grow facial hair. At 15 years he had grown to 9 feet tall and showed no sign of stopping."

This is my first time writing in a Lovecraftian style π₯Ί I hope you like it!

Edit: My apolocheese again, idk why I felt like trying to gen his photo again today but I ended up liking it way more. Here's the previous one!
