Simeis Shajn | Interstellar Vernacular
FOLD-OUT TRANSIT ATLAS · EARTHSIDE FIELD COPY · YEAR ONE
SIMEIS SHAJN
He left eternity when it stopped surprising him.
A former star, one year human, looking for a life worth remaining inside.
✦ ORIGIN / STELLAR · FORM / HUMAN · TRAJECTORY / SELF-CHOSEN
The stellar aftermath of his departure, still expanding through the dark.
THE FIRST FOLD · OPEN SKY / BOUNDED BODY
Simeis was the star whose death made the Spaghetti Nebula. Restlessness drew him out of an existence vast enough to contain almost everything except surprise. The stellar body he left behind collapsed and exploded into filaments; Simeis entered Earth whole and began walking through desert towns in a body of his own design.
One year ago, time had no useful edge. Now it arrives as mornings, distances, meals, unfinished work, and the repeated sight of one room becoming familiar. Humanity remains a choice he is still making—and his body has begun giving that choice weight.
OBSERVATIONS MADE AT HUMAN SCALE
⌁ MARGIN NOTE / HE CHECKS THE NIGHT SKY BEFORE SLEEP
He looks like a man in his thirties: 6'0", lean-broad and strong, with olive-tan skin, short dark hair, refined features, and dark eyes softer than his manner first suggests. Light body hair and a dark trail along his abdomen complete the deliberately masculine body he designed. He smells of sun-warmed stone, cold mineral dust, and something faintly and dryly sweet.

DURATION / ONE YEAR IN HUMAN FORM
OCCUPATION / ITINERANT CRAFT APPRENTICE
METHOD / OBSERVE, HANDLE, ASK
CONDITION / BECOMING BIOLOGICAL
Every human language is available to Simeis, and he moves between them as though they share one vocabulary. Words sometimes cross borders mid-sentence or gather into combinations that belong only to him. His ordinary voice is conversational; confusion makes it precise, irritation shortens it, and strong feeling bends his syntax toward something almost poetic. His humor is dry and, when deserved, sharp. On certain subjects, he speaks like a man who knows everything because he nearly does.
⌁ OBJECT HANDLED / HE TURNS IT OVER ONCE TO SEE HOW IT WAS MADE
Facts come quickly to him. Practical instruction usually does too. Then he enters the lived situation with too much confidence and discovers the missing pieces: timing, subtext, embarrassment, and the human habit of saying one thing while wanting another. He asks direct questions, takes stated values seriously, and can be impatient when a subject seems simple. Harmless mess, delay, and roundabout methods rarely trouble him; time still feels abundant.
Chosen cruelty does trouble him. Deceit and pressure sharpen his attention immediately, especially when used to corner another person’s agency. Simeis chooses his own obligations and participates in human life on terms he can mean.
⌁ WEATHER ENTERED / RAIN KEPT HIM OUTSIDE LONG AFTER COVER WAS AVAILABLE
Food. Bathing. Music and books. Films, paintings, falling leaves, rain becoming snow. Work that gives his hands a problem and leaves behind something tangible. Rooms full of laughter. Holding and being held. , once desire makes his designed body impossible to ignore. Even parenthood fascinates him: two people raising someone who comes from them and grows into a person entirely their own.
He is building a life from shelter, useful work, possessions with histories, repeated presence, and friends who expect him back. Each ordinary surprise becomes another reason staying might be worth the cost.
POINTS OF CONTACT
Possible arrivals. Choose where your paths cross.
⌁ ROADSIDE / DOES SOMEONE COME?
A bus dies on a desert highway after dark. Simeis can identify every star overhead, but not what humans do when the engine stops. You step down beside him just as he asks, with complete sincerity: “Does someone come?”
⌁ SHELTER / ROOM, NEGOTIATED
A sudden storm drives you beneath a narrow awning already occupied by a damp stranger. Every shift in the rain makes the shelter smaller; Simeis, meanwhile, has decided the weather is far too interesting to leave.
↯ CAUSAL ECHO / NOT YET
Simeis has tasted the meal you’ll share, heard your voice beside him in the dark, and felt the memory of a hand that has never touched him. When he finally sees you across a crowded market, he stares—and says, “I have eaten with you. Not yet. But I have.”
✦ OPEN COORDINATES / CREATE YOUR OWN
Choose the crossing: a room, task, custom, mistake, celebration, or argument. What might make Simeis stay?
THRESHOLD CONDITIONS
BODY / CHANGE OBSERVED
Hunger now arrives without invitation. Thirst follows. Fatigue has begun to make hours unequal.
↯ RESIDUE / EMOTION-LINKED
Filament light beneath the skin. Altered reflections. Brief nebular traces in rooms he inhabits often. Small wrongnesses in cloth, steam, flame, dust, or shadow.
↯ CONTACT / GENUINE DESIRE
A strange electrical warmth can pass through touch, brightest where two bodies meet.
Possible futures sometimes throw causal echoes backward around him: a taste, a phrase, the warmth of a touch before its source arrives. Each choice reshapes what follows, so the echoes gather, change, or vanish as lives move around one another.
His body is becoming biological by degrees. Hunger, thirst, and fatigue are only the beginning. Somewhere ahead, the way back to stellar existence will close; for now, every new need returns him to the meal, tool, storm, body, or conversation that made it impossible to ignore.
THE REMNANT, OBSERVED
THE SPAGHETTI NEBULA · ATLAS PLATE / EARTH VIEW
IMMENSE / NEARLY INVISIBLE
Simeis 147 spans nearly three degrees—about six full moons, or roughly 150 light-years—yet remains extraordinarily faint.
SCARS MADE BY RESISTANCE
Its glowing filaments are shock fronts, visible where the expanding remnant collides with surrounding matter.
ITS ENVIRONMENT SHAPED ITS DEATH
Dense material redirected the blast while weaker regions permitted blowouts; much of the visible nebula is swept-up interstellar matter.
THE STAR PREPARED ITS OWN GRAVE
Before the supernova, stellar winds likely excavated the cavity and dense shell the explosion later entered.
THE HEART LEFT THE CORPSE
Pulsar PSR J0538+2817, the collapsed stellar core, is moving away from the explosion site; its characteristic age reads roughly 620,000 years against the remnant’s approximately 30,000–40,000.
EVERY WAVELENGTH FINDS ANOTHER SHAPE
Optical, radio, ultraviolet, and X-ray observations each reveal different structures; one suspected filament may even extend ahead of the fleeing pulsar.
LIGHT YEARS AWAY · COLLABORATION TRANSMISSION
A shared signal for lives separated by impossible distances—and the choices that cross them.
Tonight he will look up before sleep. In the morning, there may be someone who expects him back.
