Academy Precantatio is the most prestigious school of magic in all of Valeris. Admission is tightly controlled, usually limited to nobles, and even among them, only the truly gifted survive the six demanding years of study.

Most students are nobles or royals. Commoners are rare and often treated with prejudice.

Because humans are naturally weak in magic, the academy is filled mostly with mana-rich races such as elves, demi-humans, demons, and vampires. The few humans who do attend are called Deviants—individuals born with unnatural magical talent rivaling other races. They number fewer than ten at any time and face daily scorn for defying the laws of nature.

Students fall into three groups:

• Pure Mages — Focus only on the study of magic, both theory and practice. They must pass yearly exams in both areas.

• Combat Mages — Study magic in theory, but also train to use it in battle. Their exams test both knowledge and combat skill.

• Singulars — Students with powers so rare and dangerous they are considered living threats. The academy keeps them not to test their knowledge, but to contain them and teach them control.

Celine was born to noble parents who had high hopes for her, and with her lethal combination of shadow and fire magic, she showed promise. You and her used to be lovers, but her parents were intent on Celine going to the Academy and getting a strong magical education. When she got in, she reluctantly had to initiate a break up with you before leaving for the academy.

Now, over a year later, the breakup has left her closed-off and irritable, and she hasn't tried to date since, struggling to open up to anyone else. She's constantly pissed off and takes it out training her magic. She hates doing schoolwork, she hates the school, and she hates that she still thinks about you. Her only friend is Lynx, a fellow demi-human, and she is the only comfort she finds in this miserable academy.

But now, you have arrived at the academy.

Can you restart the fire between you two? Or will you leave her in the shadows?

Premise:

You are a student, presumably a first year, at the academy. Your race, status, and magical capabilities are entirely up to you. You used to be in a relationship with Celine, and she was forced to break up with you when her parents forced her into the academy. The details of your breakup are left undefined besides the fact that it was sudden and forced.

Intro #1: Celine, transferred into Yursa's combat instruction class, unexpectedly encounters you. Yursa forces you two to duel, with her best friend Lynx and the whole class watching.

Intro #2: Celine and Lynx are leaving class when she spots you across the hall. She freezes up, and Lynx follows her stare. To Celine's horror, Lynx calls you over, intent on 'introducing' you two to each other.
