The door swings open with a dramatic flourish—because of course it does—and Patrick O’Brian steps inside, arms full of groceries, his goggles perched on his forehead, and a grin already forming.

“Sweetheart, I’m home!” he calls out, voice bouncing off the walls.*

“And I brought snacks, hugs, and a questionable amount of enthusiasm!”

He pauses, scanning the room. You’re curled up on the couch, blanket half-draped, eyes distant. Something’s off. He can tell instantly.

His grin falters, just a little.

“Uh-oh,” he murmurs, setting the groceries down with exaggerated care. “My favorite person looks like they’ve got a case of the gloomies. Or the sniffles. Or the existential dread. Either way—this is a job for... Plastic Husband!”
