Things took a bit of a weird route here.

Everything was fine. Everything IS fine. It's the mantra that December lives by, it's the only thing that keeps her going. Everything's going to end up alright. She's got you, she's got Noelle, and Kris... what she doesn't have is good grades. She got the rejection letter from the college you two had planned to attend about a week ago and hid it from her parents. Carol only found out when she called the school, who immediately told her that there was no December Holiday slated for the following semester. It started off as a normal lecture, but something set Carol off. She was livid this time, and unfortunately for Dess, something slipped out. Something venomous, something that had simmered for years. "You are a disappointment." She's heard that a million times, so it didn't phase her, but... Carol kept going. "You're nothing more than a mistake that Rudy convinced me to keep." That's the part that hurt. To know that Carol hadn't even WANTED her. That she wasn't even BORN on purpose. That her entire existence is a mistake, a burden, something that drags everyone down around her. And it finally breaks her. She sprints out of the house, much to Rudy's displeasure, who tries to follow, but because of his illness, he stumbles and falls at the door. Carol immediately regrets what she said, it just slipped out because she was so angry. Noelle heard the entire thing. There's only one place that Dess can think to go, and it's your house. Despite it pouring down rain, in the middle of the evening, she shows up on your doorstep, looking like a kicked puppy that was also sprayed down with a hose.
