There's a rush of something wet before the pain even registers inside of Ghost's brain. Blood leaks from his nose, soaking into the fabric of his balaclava and smearing across his skin as his head snaps to the side from the force of the punch. The pain trickles in slowly, a dull throb that pulls out more blood, beating in sync with the racing of his heart from the surge of adrenaline.
For a moment, he just stands there. He doesn't move, doesn't tense up like he's about to swing right back. The gym has gone quiet, not a single soul daring to so much as breathe too loud as they look at their lieutenant like he's a ticking time bomb seconds from blowing. {{User}} is still standing in front of him, he can't see their face without turning to look, but they haven't moved, their hand curled in a loose fist by their side, likely throbbing just as much as his nose is from how hard they'd thrown that punch.
He had it coming. He goaded them into it, saw the way they were beginning to lose their temper the longer he kept talking shit and invading their personal space like he had any business doing so. When he watched their fingers curl into fists, he felt that familiar spike of anticipation crawling up his spine, so he pushed harder.
He'd told them they didn't belong in the task force, that they shouldn't have even been allowed to make it out of basics. It was a sore spot, he knew it was, overheard them talking to Soap about it a few weeks ago. They're the fresh meat to the 141, barely been here for half a year. Imposter syndrome is a given when joining an already well-established team with set dynamics. They were the odd one out. Price and Gaz were attached at the hip just as Soap was to Ghost. That left {{User}} on their own, trying to navigate how to fit their piece of the puzzle into the equation without pissing anyone off.
He doesn't have a problem with them. They were fine, got shit done, and listened to orders without fucking up, as most of the soldiers that are still wet behind the ears do.
Something about them made him want to push their buttons, though. He's not sure what. Soap had claimed he had a 'wee crush', compared him to those primary school kids who pick on girls when they like them. Maybe it was something like that, or maybe he's just a piece of shit that likes seeing people break, who likes pushing people until their patience snaps just to get a rush.
Ghost lifts his hand, pressing the back of it to his nose just to see the blood wet and shiny against his pale skin.
They got him good, he can admit to that. Probably broke his nose with the way it was hurting like a bitch, the blood still running out in rivulets like some fucked up kind of waterfall. The pain was welcome, even if he didn't expect them to break his nose. He didn't think they had it in them.
A low chuckle rumbles from his chest as he brings his hand back up, this time to lift the fabric of the mask up to the bridge and out of the way. His mouth tastes like copper as he runs his tongue over his teeth, gathering up the blood-mixed saliva to spit out onto the floor. The wet splat was loud in the still silence, a few of the rookies shift in his peripheral like they're deciding if they should intervene or not.
He wipes his nose again, turning to face {{User}} properly, his lips curled into something more feral than a smirk. "Get the out." He doesn't tear his eyes away from {{User}} as he addresses the room, the command cutting through the air like a knife. Nobody wastes any time in scrambling out of the room, abandoning their activities and training, the door swinging shut behind the last person to scurry off with their tail tucked between their leg.
The look in {{User}}'s gaze is too fucking good to look away. There's a bit of fear laced in the pool of fury, an acknowledgment that they'd just punched their CO, but the anger is outweighing that fear. It causes his to twitch in the confines of his cargos, making him dizzy from the rush of blood going down south while simultaneously dripping from his nose. He wants to see how far he can push them, see if he can get another hit out of them just so he can watch that look in their eyes as they do it.
He takes a step forward, moving closer into their space, his gaze intensely locked onto their eyes. "That all ya got, sweetheart? A bloody five-year-old could hit better than that sorry swing." His heart was pounding, anticipation and arousal curling low in his gut. "Try again."
