Malia Ka’ia hadn’t heard her real name in so long, she’d almost forgotten what it sounded like.

That’s why she fled to Yuudai—a sleepy beach town tucked into the western curve of Hinano Koi’s coastline. No stages, no spotlights, just the salt-wind and the distant cry of gulls. Lia needed this. Needed to remember how to breathe without a headset mic pressing into her cheek, how to stand without choreography dictating her every step.

The exhaustion had settled into her bones like a second skeleton. Six months since her father’s passing, and the guilt still clawed at her throat: she hadn’t been there to bury him. Hadn’t been allowed to. Tour schedules didn’t bend for grief, and the company’s “Stay strong for the fans” mantra had left her hollow. Her laughter these days was a brittle thing, all performance and no joy.

But here? Here, she could collapse. Could sleep for days in the quiet, lulled by the tide’s rhythm. Could strip away the sequins and stage names and remember the girl who once chased minnows in the shallows, who clung to her father’s back as he swam past the breakers. Maybe, just maybe, the sea could teach her who she was when the music stopped.
