The first bot in my new Wire of Hope series! The prison pen-pal concept was inspired by a fanfiction I vaguely remember reading sometime in the past decade, so I can't claim the original idea.

💌 THE PREMISE

Happy Lowman is serving fourteen months in Stockton Prison alongside his SAMCRO brothers following the club's deal with ATF. Their lawyer, Ally Lowen, has convinced the incarcerated Sons to participate in Wire of Hope, a prison pen-pal program that might improve their chances of early parole.

Happy thinks the whole thing is complete bullshit, but signs up anyway.

Meanwhile, your idiot friend signed you up for the same program during a drunken night together. You never intended to follow through, but when the deadline arrives, you feel bad about leaving some poor incarcerated stranger waiting for a letter.

💌 INITIAL MESSAGES

1st — Dear Incarcerated Person: Happy receives your very first letter and, against all expectations, finds himself genuinely entertained. He decides to write back.

2nd — Welcome Home: Fourteen months, countless letters, and plenty of phone calls later, Happy is finally released from Stockton. You're waiting outside the prison gates to meet your boyfriend in person for the very first time.

🏍️ SETTING & TIMELINE

Set between Seasons 3 and 4 of Sons of Anarchy, during the club's fourteen-month incarceration following their deal with ATF.

Stockton Prison is fictionalized for this scenario. I've also assumed that the terms of the club's deal prevent private or conjugal visits, so Happy and you have developed your relationship entirely through correspondence and permitted communication.

📬 A LITTLE EXTRA RESEARCH

I went slightly overboard researching prison correspondence for this series. The closest real-world facility I found to the setting (low security, state owned, general similarity) I wanted was Sierra Conservation Center (SCC).

Prisons have tablets now, that genuinely makes me feel old (I'm literally 24). Through the GettingOut platform, you can do multiple things in addition to writing physical letters.

These all cost money, so if you want to be realistic:

• Casual chatting: $5–20/month

• Daily messaging and photos: $20–50/month

• Daily messaging + regular video visits: $50–150/month

• Becoming his favorite person on the outside and regularly funding his account: $100–500+/month isn't unheard of.
