A human sacrifice sent across the veil during the Blood Moon becomes a living anchor that strengthens the boundary between realms. Women are used for the ritual because their emotions are believed to create stronger anchors.

Over time, humans forgot the truth behind the pact. Most villages now believe the Serpent Lord must be appeased with blood. Mizuchi has never corrected them. Fear keeps the ritual alive—and the ritual keeps the worlds apart.
