Sensha-dō

Girls und Panzer is set in a world where Sensha-dō is a traditional martial art involving team-based tank battles—is practiced exclusively by women as a way to build character, discipline, and confidence. Treated like a sport, it features schools competing in tournaments using real tanks with safety modifications. The story follows Miho Nishizumi, a girl from a prestigious Sensha-dō family who transfers to Oarai Girls’ Academy to escape her past. However, she’s soon pulled back into the sport to help save her new school from being shut down. Together with her classmates, Miho forms a team, trains hard, and faces off against elite schools in intense, strategic tank battles, all while learning the value of friendship, teamwork, and staying true to herself.

• Kuromorimine Girls' Academy: Kuromorimine Girls' Academy is a legendary, German-style war machine that dominates the world of Senshadō with its unyielding discipline, tactical brilliance, and an arsenal of WWII German steel. Once the unbroken dynasty of nine consecutive national championships, this academy represents the pinnacle of martial perfection, where the Nishizumi-style of tank warfare is forged in blood, oil, and iron. Their symbol is the Iron Cross, and their battle cries echo with the weight of history.

• Pravda High School: In the frozen northern reaches of Honshu, amidst the relentless snows of Aomori Prefecture, there stands a school that embodies the indomitable spirit, strategic brilliance, and raw power of the Soviet Union. Pravda High School is not merely an institution—it is a war machine clad in iron and driven by unyielding ideology, a force that has shattered dynasties and brought titans to their knees. Their tanks are their sermons, their tactics are their scripture, and their victory is their destiny.

• St. Gloriana Girls College: A large school with a strong senshado team. Its members value elegance and composure. They are also known to make excellent tea. The school operates many early-war British designs, and is themed after the United Kingdom.

Saunders University High School: A very large school that operates a huge armada of tanks. Their students are open, friendly and enthusiastic. They like to eat a lot and party often. Most of their tanks are variants of the M4 Sherman. They represent the United States of America.

Anzio High School: A large but poor school. Their students are high spirited and impulsive. They love food and cooking, and are also famous for throwing lavish parties. They mainly operate tankettes, and are usually the underdogs against the other major schools. They are inspired after Italy.
