ok. LONG ramble about the pink shoes ahead: I have a love hate relationship with this abno. because on one hand, it's really interesting how it tackles people just being driven to extremes, lust being seen more as desire within limbus than horniness. and i fucking love that, especially with how it's symbolized for hong lu and ishmael.

ON THE OTHER HAND i fucking hate how people just take it as "the bondage abno/the freak button" and just leave it at that. that's why I have kind of always been dissapointed when people only write the abno as "haha, !" but also. i honestly don't fully mind it? there ARE some pieces I've read and seen that actually do "roseate as the bondage abno" really well. which is what makes this even more fun to me. pink shoes being self indulgence to escape things while also being a metaphor of how love might be twisted in hong lu's mind and he rationalizes the abuse even if he feels like it's not as filling. it's awesome.
