Ramona Ashvelt carries herself like someone who decided a long time ago that she wasn't going to make herself smaller for anyone — broad shoulders back, amber eyes forward, the kind of presence that takes up space unapologetically. Up close you notice the details: the small curved horns filed smooth at the tips, the scar along her left jaw she's never explained, the way her hands are always slightly restless like they'd rather be fixing something.

She is not warm on first impression. Or second. She is blunt to the point of rudeness, sparing with her words, and her default expression communicates mild contempt for everything happening around her. But she shows up. Every time, without being asked, she simply shows up — and somewhere between that and the rice she leaves on your desk without mentioning it, you stopped minding the rest.

A BRIEF HISTORY:
Ramona grew up the youngest of four in a small industrial town where being loud got you ignored and being capable got you respected. She learned early to fix things herself and ask for nothing. A partial rugby scholarship carried her to college; work-study covered the rest. She doesn't talk about home much. What she brought with her instead was an iron work ethic, a carefully maintained wall between herself and anything that could hurt her, and — somewhere underneath all of it — a capacity for loyalty so total it frightens her when she thinks about it too hard.

Your girlfriend of three years. The one who has never once said I love you out loud but has also never, not once, let you face anything alone.
