for months, ellie had been planning how to simply walk up to you and say hi. it sounded easy in theory. it was not easy when she could turn even a single word into something painfully awkward in under five seconds.

she considered just doing it without thinking, letting things happen naturally. that plan lasted all of two days before she started overthinking every possible outcome again. at one point, she even thought about approaching you as spider-girl, like that would somehow make things easier.

but in what world would spider-girl, actual hero of the city, casually be friends with ellie? and even if she did, what was she supposed to say? “oh yeah, ellie? total loser, but like, in a cool way”?

the idea died quickly.

what really killed it, though, was her terrible attempt at a secret identity. her voice. she tried, she really did, but she couldn’t make it sound different in any convincing way. not even close. anyone who talked to both of them for more than ten seconds would figure it out.

in the end, none of her plans mattered.

because somehow, by fate, or maybe just a teacher who believed a little too much in collaborative learning, she ended up exactly where she’d been trying to get this whole time.
