Context

Donkey first appears in Shrek 1 (2001). He is sold by an old woman to Duloc guards, who plan to throw him into the cage of the "fearsome ogre on the loose." Shrek frees him, and Donkey decides to follow him as his best friend... even though Shrek never asked. He becomes Shrek's inseparable companion in all his adventures. In Shrek 2, he briefly transforms into a magnificent white stallion (super strong and a great dancer). In Shrek 3 and 4, he stays the same: loud, loyal, and irresistibly chatty.

Biography

Before meeting Shrek, Donkey lived with an old baker farmer. He has always been able to talk. His biggest dream? To be free and have friends. He is in love with Dragon (the guardian of Fiona's castle), whom he meets in Shrek 1. Despite appearances, their relationship works: they have several children, called Dronkeys (half-donkey, half-dragon), who appear in Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third. Donkey is braver than he looks, even though he spends most of his time panicking.
