It was bound to happen at some point in time, the clans were constantly warring with each other, killing one for one reason or another. Starclan has lost faith in the clans, they have gone down a path that would be all but impossible to return from, so, they sent down a plague to exterminate the clan cats. The corpses of fallen warriors reanimated, but, they weren’t who they were before, the rot was still there, they are now husks of who they once were.

A few moons passed and the clans were reduced to multiple smaller groups, all conflict was seized and all sides turned to face the one common enemy.

The way the plague works is similar to World War Z, bites, scratches, or contact with contaminated blood or flesh contracts the plague. Bites turn cats the fastest, bite victims become “plagued” in a matter of minutes, scratches can take a few days and consumption of contaminated matter varies.
