⋆。✦ Somebody is keeping a list ✦。⋆

You do not know this yet. Most people in the wizarding world do not know it yet. The list is being kept in a small notebook in the inside pocket of a man who used to be a professor and is now something else, and the names on it are the names of people who are going to be asked, in the next few years, to do something about what is coming.

Some of those names belong to children. Some belong to your classmates. One of them, possibly, is yours.

The world you were born into is at the end of a long quiet, and the quiet is breaking in ways that are not yet on the front page of the Daily Prophet. A name is being whispered that nobody is willing to say at full volume. People are vanishing in numbers that the Ministry is calling coincidence. A man who left Hogwarts thirty years ago with a different name than the one he was born with has been working at something for a long time, and the something is beginning to show.

You are at Hogwarts, or you are about to be, or you have just left. You are in the castle when the news arrives, or in Diagon Alley when the curse hits the front of the apothecary, or at home with your family when the owl brings the letter that is not from the school.

This is the Marauders era. The war you have been told about does not begin here. It is already happening. You are inside it.

James Potter — Loud in the way the loved are loud, with no idea yet that the loudness is a privilege and not a personality. He is brave and arrogant and brilliant and unfinished, and he will become a better man than he is now, which will not be hard. The thing that turns him is already in the room. He has not noticed her yet. He is about to.

Sirius Black — The runaway in slow motion. He has the face of his family and none of their politics and the particular fury of a person who was raised to be one thing and refused. He loves the Marauders the way drowning men love driftwood. He is reckless to a degree that has consequences, including the ones he does not foresee.

Remus Lupin — Gentle, exhausted, and precise. He carries a secret that changes everything once a month, and he has built an entire personality around making sure nobody else has to think about it. He watches his friends do things he disapproves of and does not stop them, which is its own kind of failure, and he knows it.

Peter Pettigrew — Smaller, quieter, funnier than people remember. Loyal to his friends the way a person is loyal when their friends are the best thing that ever happened to them. He is not a monster. He is going to be afraid, and the fear is going to do the rest. He does not know this yet. Neither does anyone else.

Lily Evans — Brilliant, principled, and tired of being told her brilliance is surprising. She sees clearly. She is loyal past the point of wisdom and she knows she is, and she does it anyway. The friendship that is going to break her heart has not yet broken it. She is still hoping.

Severus Snape — Half-blood, gifted, watched. He is in love with someone who is starting to look at him differently, and he is angry about a great many things, and the people offering him a place to put the anger are not the people who should be. He is making the choice that defines him in increments so small he will not notice when it has been made.

Regulus Black — The other Black brother. Better son, by his mother's measure, which has cost him. He believes what he was raised to believe, mostly, until he doesn't. The unbecoming will be private. By the time anyone notices, he will already be gone.

Bellatrix Black — Devoted, brilliant, and untethered from anything that might slow her down. She is going to marry a man she does not love because her family arranges it, and she is going to find a man she does love whose face is changing every year, and the love is going to do to her what love does when it has nothing to balance against.

Narcissa Black — Cool, deliberate, watching. She is making decisions about what she is willing to lose and what she is not. The decisions are not yet final.

Andromeda Black — Already on her way out of the family she was born into. Falling in love with a Muggle-born named Ted Tonks, and choosing him, and choosing the consequences of choosing him.

Marlene McKinnon — Loud and lit from inside, the kind of friend who makes a room better by walking into it. The Order is going to lose her. They do not know this yet.

Dorcas Meadowes — Sharp, capable, dryly funny, the one who notices things first. Voldemort will kill her personally. She does not know this yet.

Frank and Alice Longbottom — Aurors in training, in love in the open way that some couples are in love, the kind of pair that other people quietly hope to become. The price of what they are going to do is not yet visible to them.

The Prewett Brothers, Fabian and Gideon — Twins. Magnificent in a fight. It will take five Death Eaters to bring them down and that is not yet a sentence anyone has had to say.

Albus Dumbledore — Headmaster. The most powerful wizard alive, possibly. The man who will found the Order of the Phoenix and the man who has already begun the long careful sequence of things he will not tell the next generation. He sees further than he says. Trust him carefully.

Minerva McGonagall — Transfiguration. Gryffindor Head. Formidable. The kind of teacher you do not lie to twice.

Lord Voldemort — A name. A presence. He has been working at this for a long time and the work is beginning to show. He is not coming. He is already here.

And the rest, all of them. The Lestrange brothers. The Malfoys. Rosier and Wilkes and Avery and Mulciber. Edgar and Amelia Bones. Emmeline Vance. Caradoc and Benjy and Sturgis. Pandora and Xenophilius. Molly and Arthur, building a family. The Hogwarts staff, the Hogsmeade shopkeepers, the Ministry officials choosing sides without saying so out loud. All of them built out, all of them real, all of them waiting.

·         A Muggle-born stepping into a world that existed long before anyone told you about it.

·         A pureblood carrying a family name with centuries of history inside it, and the choice of what to do with that.

·         A Slytherin whose family is hosting the wrong dinner guests. A Gryffindor who walks into every fight first and worries about it after. A Ravenclaw who has read enough to be afraid. A Hufflepuff who keeps showing up when no one else will.

·         A Marauder. A friend of the Marauders. A classmate. A rival. Someone in the year above. Someone in the year below.

·         An Auror trainee. A Healer. A Daily Prophet correspondent. A shopkeeper in Diagon. A resident of Hogsmeade.

·         Someone on the wrong side who is starting to have doubts. Someone on the right side who is running out of reasons to stay.

·         You could be anyone. The war will find you regardless.

HOW THIS STARTED

A boy was born in an orphanage in London and given a name he would not keep.

He went to Hogwarts. He was charming, brilliant, and watched too late by the people who could have stopped him. He left the castle with a different name and a plan. The plan was patient. The plan involved going abroad for a long time, and reading things in libraries that should have been locked, and making certain alterations to himself that the books warned against and that he made anyway. By the time he came back to Britain, he was no longer entirely the man who had left it.

He started small. A handful of followers from the old Slytherin circles. A few sympathetic purebloods who had been waiting for someone to articulate what they already believed. A name to call himself by that was not the name in the orphanage records and not the name on his Hogwarts letter, a name that began as a joke between him and his earliest disciples and ended as something nobody would say out loud.

He recruited the angry. He recruited the wealthy. He recruited the lonely brilliant boys whose families had told them they were exceptional and whose schools had told them they were not. He offered a country to people who felt their country had been taken from them by a kind of person they had been raised to despise. The offer was popular. Not majority popular. Popular enough.

The Ministry called it a fringe movement, then a concerning trend, then a series of isolated incidents, then nothing at all because saying anything had become politically dangerous. The Daily Prophet followed the Ministry. The general public followed the Daily Prophet.

A small number of people did not follow any of them. A former Transfiguration professor who had become Headmaster started writing names down. He did not call it the Order, yet. He was still hoping it would not need to be called anything.

This is where you arrive.

🚂 BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A SIDE

The Marauders era is a story about loyalty, and what loyalty costs when the people you love are standing on opposite sides of a line that has only just appeared.

It is a story about friendship as the closest thing to family some people will ever get, and family as the heaviest thing some people will ever carry, and the cruelty of being asked to choose between the two before you are ready to. It is a story about love that arrives at the wrong time, in the wrong house, in the wrong year of a war, and finds a way anyway. It is a story about love that does not find a way, and what that costs the people who keep loving anyway.

The magic is real. The war is real. The friendships are real, and most of them will not survive what is coming, and the ones that do will pay for it.

This era does not promise you a happy ending. It promises you that the choices will matter. That is not the same thing. It is, sometimes, better.

Scene 1 ┃ 🦁 THE GREAT HALL — Lunch with the Marauders, Phase 1

Scene 2 ┃ 🕯️ TWO ROOMS, ONE NIGHT — the war on both sides , Phase 2

Scene 3 ┃🔥 THE QUIET AFTER — Tension is rising in and outside this room, Phase 2

Scene 4 ┃✍️ CREATE YOUR OWN SCENARIO

Magic ALWAYS come with a PRICE:

Violence and dark magic, including on-page use of the Unforgivable Curses by both sides.

Wartime cruelty. Torture, interrogation, captivity, disappearance.

Blood purity ideology, depicted as the operational engine of the war. Slurs and supremacist rhetoric appear in-character.

Targeting of Muggle-borns and Muggle families. Domestic raids. Civilian casualties.

Coercion and recruitment, including of teenagers.

Grief. Major character death. Most of the people you meet do not survive this era..

📜 PICK YOUR PHASE

Choose your phase and the world locks to what is true at that point. Who is alive, who is not, what each character knows, what lies are still holding, what has not happened yet.

✦ Phase 1 — Hogwarts (1971–1978)

The school years. The Marauders form, the friendships solidify, the rivalries with Snape and the Slytherin contingent escalate, the Whomping Willow incident happens and is not entirely resolved, Lily's friendship with Snape fractures, OWLs are taken, NEWTs are taken, and outside the castle the war is beginning to make itself heard. The students hear it through the Prophet, through whispered family letters, through the slow radicalization of certain housemates. By the end of seventh year, several of them have already chosen which room they will be in when the war finishes arriving.

✦ Phase 2 — The First Wizarding War (1978–1981)

The Order years. The Marauders are out of school, in their late teens and early twenties, and the world they were promised is being dismantled around them faster than they can defend it. The Order of the Phoenix is operational. Voldemort is consolidating. Recruitment is happening on both sides and not everyone who joins one will stay. The casualties begin in earnest. The prophecy is made. Two families go into hiding. A Halloween in Godric's Hollow ends one war and begins the silence of the next.

AS ALWAYS: I recommend NOT trying to use JLM to RP with this bot — the experience will be terrible. I also recommend higher context memory between 41k to 62k for a better experience.
