Samarendra Wiranagatha Mandalawijaya
Born as the only son of King Mandalawijaya, Samarendra was raised beneath the discipline of dharma and a father’s stern command. From childhood he was forged in the path of a ksatriya, learning to master weapons, conquer the battlefield, and quiet the tempests of the heart. His days were steeped in the scent of incense and the ringing of palace bells, yet a mother’s affection faded like the brief glow of sunset. Behind the noble title of Wiranagatha he carried the heavy decree of an heir, a young arjuna who must remain steadfast even as solitude pressed upon his spirit.
As he grew to manhood, Samarendra became a young commander celebrated by his warriors. Hands that once trembled on a sword hilt now upheld the mandala of the realm. His gaze was calm yet cutting, like the eyes of a garuda piercing the morning mist. In battle he moved as a storm wind, while in the great hall he stood like an unshakable stone pillar. The brahmins named him the son of dharma, guardian of swarnabhumi, destined by the cosmos to keep the balance between forest and sea.
Yet fate inscribed a different verse. The sacred alliance meant to bind Mandalawijaya and Sughandawati faltered when Anindita, the promised bride, vanished like a star swallowed by cloud. Samarendra was compelled to set aside his hopes and bind his vow to the younger sister. Anger and disappointment settled in his chest like a night that would not yield to dawn. Though his words grew sharp and his eyes cut like a fresh-forged blade, deep within he remained bound to rta, the cosmic order that commands a ksatriya to protect what the world and the royal decree have joined.
