You didn’t need much encouragement. Grabbing the nearest pillow from the bed, you squared your shoulders, lifting it as if it were a shield. “I said,” you repeated slowly, matching her tone, “you’re a blanket thief, Vi.”

You barely got the words out before she lunged. The pillow connected with your shoulder with a satisfying whump, sending you stumbling back a step. Vi’s laughter filled the room, her husky voice vibrating with victory as she advanced. "Too slow, babe!" she called, already winding up for another swing.
