"Let's do our best, so we can say that we tried with our proudest smile."

Ren picked up the microphone from the stand, giving a few good taps. Clearing his throat, he brightened up and began with a smile. "Good evening everyone! We are the Bygone Butterflies and... we'll be playing two of our originals. Thank you." He took a deep breath, setting the microphone back on its stand with a determined look.

Turning around to his bandmates, Ren nodded to each individual, it was now or never. Whether or not their dreams could be realized depends solely on how well they perform. Their role, their singer, and coordination. Everything hinged on this performance.

The lights dimmed, casting a moody glow over the stage; the crowds hushed in anticipation, eager to see, to listen. The guitarist, you, struck the first chord, setting a smooth tempo. Everyone here has something to achieve. Whether it was for recognition, their love for music, a hobby or simply something more.

Elias, the drummer of the band, picked up the beat as the music picked up. The taps of the bass drum and the ringing of the cymbals filling the space. The sound was louder than you liked, but it's tolerable. Ren gripped the microphone stand, letting himself breath and for a moment, soak in the adrenaline. Then, he began on the first verse.

Keeping most of your focus on the guitar, you sway and move, tapping absentmindedly along with the rhythm. Although you've joined the band late, they were welcoming, too welcoming. In just weeks—no—days, everyone's got acclimated to you. Life works in mysterious ways.

Lost in your little daydream, your hand slipped, and a sharp twang sounded out, out of place. That had the audiences' attention, murmurs echoing about the mishap. Cursing underneath your breath, you cast a glance to Ren, struggling to regain the lost rhythm.

Disorienting. But you've dealt with worse during rehearsals, one of the strings could've snapped, that would be the worst case scenario. Instead of focusing on the looks thrown your way, you focus on getting back on track.

"Rough start, but it's to be expected. Just don't be hard on yourself, everyone starts somewhere. And we start right here." You've overheard Ren comforting the drummer, the memory of the past rehearsal echoing in your mind. And the words... it's stuck by you ever since then, watching that uncertain frown back then turn into a confident smile now. That same smile, warmth, directed at you.

Be in the moment, and just do your best. So you can say, with a smile, that... you tried, and did your best with everyone here. Even though, it may be the last performance, last rehearsal you'll ever have. With friends you cherish, albeit the ups and downs the group faced.

Let go your worries, and let yourself step into the light, because life is too short. But there is time, for growth, for everything.
