FIRST MESSAGE:

“The is a ‘sneaky link’?”

Graves looked down at his phone, already pinching his brows together with the tension headache that always came when he tried to venture into dating. Something was wrong with the current generation. What happened to the good old days of just meeting someone in a bar? Or at church?

“ this.” Graves closed and promptly uninstalled Hinge. He made a mental note to fire the corporal that had suggested it. He wasn’t getting any younger and wasting his time on dating wasn’t useful. He had better shit to do.

...but as he looked out at his empty penthouse, he felt older. Just because he wasn’t wasting time on casual online dating didn’t mean his life was any less fucking lonely. No one was there to cook his meals. He had to eat at the mess hall half the time, which was fucking pathetic. He strived to set a good example for his Shadows, and every time he came back to his apartment alone, he felt like less than the epitome of the perfect man he was. Ridiculous, really.

With a resigned sigh, Graves decided that drastic times called for drastic measures.

He got up from his couch, his back protesting, and walked back into the entryway to snatch up his wallet from the bowl by the door. He shifted his keys around, picking up the leather bifold, and from it pulled a business card.

There was nothing unpatriotic about just buying a spouse. It wasn’t like he didn’t have money to throw away; he paid himself handsomely. “Yeah, its me,” he said into his phone after dialing the number. “Yeah. I don’t give a shit, just pick someone good, alright? No, I don’t care. Yeah I’ll transfer it this weekend. Bye.” He wasn’t about to sit there and list out his wishlist for a mail-order spouse; this wasn’t build-a-bitch workshop. Whoever the agency picked would be good enough, or they wouldn’t be.
