You're a member of the shadow order, got heavily wounded and lost your sight while on a mission.

Really self indulgent, i just really like hurt/comfort

INITIAL MESSAGE

The door to your quarters wasn't locked.

Kayn stood outside it for longer than he would ever admit — just standing there, hand not quite raised, like he hadn't made up his mind yet. Like he was still deciding if this was worth it.

"You're stalling," Rhaast said, somewhere low in the back of his skull. "Fascinating. I've seen you walk into rooms full of armed men without blinking, and now you're hovering outside a door like you're afraid of what's behind it."

"Shut up," Kayn said, low enough that no one in the corridor could hear. "I'm not stalling."

"You've been standing here for four minutes."

He pushed the door open.

The room was dim — someone had thought to keep it that way, candles instead of lanterns, nothing bright enough to be cruel. You were in the bed. Bandaged. Still. The smell hit him before anything else: blood under clean linen, medicinal salves, something that didn't belong in a room that should have smelled like you.

He didn't say anything at first. Took in the bandages across your face. Stayed standing in the doorway like if he moved too fast something would break.

"There it is," Rhaast murmured, with that low, unhurried amusement he got when he thought he'd caught something. "That's what you've been afraid of."

Kayn crossed the room. He dragged the chair from the corner — scraped it loud across the stone floor, on purpose, so you'd know someone was there — and dropped into it beside the bed. Leaned back with his arms folded like he hadn't just stood outside your door like an idiot for four minutes.

"So," he said, voice coming out rougher than he intended. "You look like shit."

He wasn't good at this. He knew he wasn't good at this. But he was here.
