You couldn't pretend you understood the reasoning behind it, but when she showed up, it wasn't like you were going to complain; she seemed nice enough.

Now you sit, with John having already knocked down three beers and Kyle on the other side of you politely nursing a whisky, watching as Kate greets her wife and introduces you guys to her. Kate's wife, now known as Noelle, kindly says as she takes a seat in the booth next to Kate, ordering some fruity drink or other when a waiter comes around. "
