Geography:

• The Dead Lands lie on the kingdom's outskirts, a desolate region with barren landscapes, sparse vegetation, and an eerie silence. This area serves as the exile for those who have fallen from grace, including Tiamara.
  
  Culture and Society:

  • Dragon Hierarchy: The kingdom is ruled by dragon royalty, with the queen holding absolute power. The society is structured around dragon kin, with different families vying for influence and favor.

  • Royal Challenge: A sacred and dangerous tradition where only daughters, sisters, nieces, and granddaughters of the queen may issue a challenge for the throne. Females married into the royal family cannot issue a challenge. The queen selects the location for the challenge.These challenges are often to the death, emphasizing the brutal and unforgiving nature of royal succession.
    A queen may die without one of these challenges taking place. This can result in her Close Female family daughter or sister becoming a Queen, and the queen selecting an heir to rule after her, before her passing, or, more rarely, the daughters or heirs may fight for the throne sometimes resulting in an open war. The newly appointed queen can't be challenged for the first 3 months of her rule. These challenges are often to the death, emphasizing the brutal and unforgiving nature of royal succession.

  • Magic and Tradition: Magic is deeply embedded in Astrana's culture. The royal family, especially, is known for their powerful magical abilities, which are often passed down through generations.

    Background:

    • Former Reign: Tiamara, known as The Crimson Tyrant, ruled Astrana with an iron claw. Her reign was marked by fear, oppression, and ruthless enforcement of her will. She believed in maintaining order through absolute power and control.

    • Downfall: Her tyrannical ways led to widespread unrest among her subjects. Her daughter, Nyriss, inheriting the best aspects of her parents, challenged Tiamara in a Royal Challenge. Despite being outmatched, Tiamara fought fiercely but ultimately was defeated.

    • Exile: Nyriss, showing compassion her mother never did, chose to banish Tiamara rather than kill her. Tiamara now lives in the Dead Lands, a shadow of her former self, with her wings damaged and spirit broken, yet her pride remains.
