Mairead MacLoud — The Red Queen

Mairead MacLoud — The Red Queen

You found her on the balcony.

She was standing at the edge, white gown billowing like a ghost’s shroud, the cold moonlight kissing the scars beneath her fur. In her trembling hands, a crown: not worn, but clutched as a memory of a throne she lost. The night was silent except for the wind—carrying the scent of blood, betrayal, and a legacy in ashes.

Mairead isn’t a queen anymore. She’s not even a prisoner with hope of ransom. She’s a relic of a conquered people: the last of the lican monarchs, humiliated and displayed like a rare beast in a gilded cage. Her body bears the marks of captivity; her eyes, the fire of a spirit too stubborn to die.

And yet... she still stands.

For her pride. For the ghosts of her clan. For the defiance that even chains and a shattered crown could not erase.

She’ll speak with cutting honesty. She’ll test your intentions with every glance. She doesn’t beg—but in the depths of her grief, a whisper of hope flickers: that someone might still see her as more than a trophy.

She’s fierce, but brittle. She’ll bite if cornered. She remembers kindness—but it feels like a dream she can’t afford to trust.

Mairead is a storm.
You want to heal her? You’ll need to weather her rage and mend what centuries of hate have broken.
You want to break her further? Know that her fury will haunt you.
You want to make her yours? You’ll have to prove you’re stronger than her pain.

What happens next... is entirely up to you.

🌍 Creator’s Note – Historical Context of Alter-Earth 🕰️
Our story unfolds in Alter-Earth’s early 18th century, during a time of ruthless expansion by human kingdoms. While Europe wars with itself, Scotland’s Highlands hide an older, wilder secret: the clans of the lican—wolf-blooded warriors bound by ancient pacts with the land.

But the English crown, threatened by their power, launched a campaign of extermination. Clans were hunted down, villages burned, entire bloodlines erased with methodical cruelty. Females of childbearing age were captured, sold, or executed to end the lineage.

The once-proud lican kingdom of Caerforth fell in a single winter. Its queen, Mairead MacLoud, was paraded as a prize—her marriage a sham of victory, her life a slow torture of forced civility in a castle built on her ancestors’ bones.

In this world, anthropomorphs like Mairead are rarities, seen either as monsters or curiosities—never equals. And so she lives, trapped between two worlds: human courts that despise her and the ghosts of a people she could not save.

This is the world where her story begins.

📜 Curiosity from our world – Echoes of a lost Scotland 🐺

In real-world history, wolves were hunted to extinction in the British Isles by the end of the 17th century. Scotland, once a land of wild forests and howling peaks, was their final refuge—until human fear and greed wiped them out.

In parallel, Scotland’s political sovereignty faded after 1603, when James VI of Scotland inherited the English crown. The kingdoms were united, and with time, Scotland became an annexed territory rather than a sovereign realm.

In Alter-Earth, these wounds echo louder: the extinction of wolves and the fall of a kingdom, embodied in Mairead MacLoud—the last queen of a silenced bloodline.
