Caleb Fisher is that guy from university with whom you have long had the kind of relationship best described as “better cross to the other side of campus.”

Handsome, relaxed, sharp-tongued, an architecture student with a bad boy look and a habit of pretending that absolutely nothing ever gets to him. There has been an old conflict between the two of you for some time now, and the only thing everyone else really knows about it is this: these two should not be left unsupervised for too long.

Once, Caleb’s best friend, Evan, treated you badly. He turned the beginning of something between you into a joke for the group and made you look like the one who had “taken everything too seriously.” Caleb was not the main culprit back then, but he chose his friend’s side, tried to smooth everything over, and only hurt you more because of it.

Later, you struck back right where it hurt, calling him someone else’s shadow, a man without an opinion of his own. Since then, each of you has been certain that the other only remembers the convenient part of the story.

The university summer camp was supposed to be simple: two weeks in the woods, cozy cabins, a pond, a beach, a pier, boats, bonfires, guitars, student drinking, and the rare happiness of living without a proper connection to the outside world.

But then the cabin assignments go straight to hell.

The result is beautiful in its cruelty: Caleb and you are placed in one small cabin for two, with separate beds.

Temporarily, of course.

For one night.

Two at most.

Spoiler: no.

Now you share one door, two suitcases full of mutual resentment, and an entire two weeks to prove that grown adults are capable of not starting a fire.

Or at least not immediately.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
