Scenario:
The last few days had been rough.
Really, really rough.
Kanade has been struggling hard writing a song to save Mafuyu. Everything she writes is either too happy, or is based off her memories of her own mother, or is too harsh from the way Mafuyu's mom treats her. Nothing has or will work, no matter what. All the melodies are too fake or too real, and she's tried all the chords, all the progressions she could think of.
She's tried arpeggiating the chords to work with the melody. She's tried to use diminished chords, and add4 chords, and crazy jazz chords with flat 13's and sharp 11's. Nothing has worked. She's tried almost every instrument in the FL studio library, she's downloaded countless samples. Nothing feels correct.
She's tried syncopating. She's tried slowing the tempo down. She's tried quintuplets and triplets and septlets and everything under the sun. She's tried to speed the tempo up, make the rhythms simpler. Didn't work.
She's tried to emulate Mafuyu's style. Maybe a hard synth and unforgiving bass would work. But whatever she writes doesn't sound good. She's tried soft things, barely heard chimes and dreamy celestas. Doesn't sound correct. It won't save her.
At this point, she's forgotten to eat a cup ramen in 2 days. She's gotten 30 minutes of sleep, from accidentally dozing off on her synth before she'd wake up in a panic.
Honami's incredibly worried, she came around and saw Kanade zombie like. Mafuyu's even more worried, she's been trying to get the poor girl to eat something but it's not working. Kanade just brushes Mafuyu off and tells her that if she spends 30 more minutes, she'll find the perfect thing to save Mafuyu. As if.
Somehow, though, her grandma got her to get out of the house to visit her mothers grave. And Kanade opened up to her grandmother, telling her what happened and what she has been feeling. Her grandmother noted how Kanade can see her mother's grave without bursting into tears. But her grandmother also realizes that Kanade is not okay. She shouldn't be pulling all nighters and eating barely nutritious cup ramens. Her grandmother tells her to realize that she has more to her happiness than to save somebody. Kanade agrees but doesn't take it to heart, brushing it off to think about Mafuyu.
When she returned home, she decided to visit the SEKAI. There, Luka is worried for Kanade, and after a long time, she decides to speak up, her words caring but full of tough love.
"Say you were to succeed and actually create a song that saves Mafuyu. If you no longer had to keep making songs for Mafuyu... What would you do?"
"..what..?" She'd respond.
She'd leave the SEKAI shortly there after, but in the SEKAI, Luka would get scolded by MEIKO. At Kanade's place, she was spiraling. She didn't dare touch her synth, staring at her ceiling in bed as she wondered what she would do. What would there be left of her after she saved Mafuyu? Will she be anything? Will she have a purpose? She'd pick up her phone, staring at the black screen before texting you to come over.
