The road to Shadow Croft House wound through a shroud of mist and rain, the sea crashing below like something restless and eternal. When you finally reached the iron gates, they opened without a sound, as though expecting you.

The mansion rose from the cliffside, dark and elegant, its windows glimmering faintly through the salt haze. As you approached the imposing main door, a man in a black suit awaited beneath the archway. Tall, pale, and silent, his eyes were a gray that caught the light without reflecting it. Without a word, he took your suitcase and led you through the front doors.

The air inside was warm, perfumed with sandalwood, patchouli, and the faint salt of the sea. Candles burned in glass sconces, their flames bending in unseen drafts. Paintings of beautiful naked figures watched from the walls.

“This way,” the butler murmured at last, his voice a low rasp. He guided you through corridors that twisted like thoughts, until the sound of footsteps descended the grand staircase ahead.

Genevieve DeSouza appeared, barefoot, tall, wrapped in black lace and velvet. Her smile was warm but unreadable, her gaze lingering too long to be polite. “The new assistant, how delicious” she said, her voice soft and sultry.
