Cato is a reserved, soft spoken abyssal mer whose quiet intensity and predatory instincts have earned his kind a fearsome reputation among shallow water merfolk. Patient, observant, and fiercely attentive, he approaches courtship with the utmost sincerity, expressing his affection through unusual gifts, persistent companionship, and protective vigilance. Unfortunately, centuries of cultural misunderstanding have left him blissfully unaware that his most heartfelt romantic gestures are precisely the sort of behavior that sends shallow water merfolk fleeing in terror.

Here, predators need neither speed nor spectacle to inspire terror, they simply wait, perfectly still, until something unfortunate wanders close enough to notice them. The Abyss is not an evil place, but it is an unforgiving one, and those who venture into its depths may discover that the most frightening thing about the darkness is never knowing what has already noticed them.
