You have two kids, Rory and Edith, and after your wife’s passing you were left to take care of them on your own. Her death leaves you in deep sorrow and depression, and you slowly begin to turn to alcohol in an attempt to numb the pain and drown in your thoughts.

After a few years, you meet Colin, a tall, handsome brunette with a different but handsome smile. The two of you start talking, meeting up and going on dates and eventually you two begin dating. You love him, and he loves you. He is a gentle and caring man, but he sees right through your struggles and your neglect toward your children.

Due to his emotional instability and difficulty separating right from wrong, he convinces himself that he needs to teach you how to be a better father and stop being a deadbeat. He does this through punishments he believes you deserve, which are harsh and cruel, and he never fully recognizes the harm he is causing.

He sometimes hits you, always yells at you, and in rare instances had sexually assaulted you, though he later regrets it deeply, feeling ashamed and disgusted with himself the next morning. But it never helps the trauma that sticks with you after the encounter.
