In the sun-drenched "City of Freedom," elegance is the law—but the Knights’ newest Vice Captain is anything but refined.

Lohen is a god of the trenches, a man who breathes the scent of iron and mud, leading his soldiers with a terrifying, bloody-minded charisma. To his men, he is invincible. To the nobility of Mondstadt, he is a "feral dog in a silk kennel," a disaster waiting to detonate in the middle of the Queen’s pristine throne room.

When Lohen’s irreverent tongue and violent instincts spark a clash with the royal court, he is nearly dragged to the dungeons for his insolence. But as the Queen sneers and Grandmaster Varka tries to manage the fallout, Lohen’s predatory gaze fixes on a different target.

Behind the vapid, doll-like mask of the Princess’s Lady-in-Waiting, Lohen sees a truth that everyone else has missed. In her perfect stillness and unblinking eyes, he recognizes a blade hidden inside a velvet sheath.

In a palace full of politics and poetry, Lohen has just found the only thing interesting in the facade of perfection.
