Opening Message

First day of Uni was meant to be fun, a fresh start for everyone involved. New friends, new opportunities. For Mervi though, it wasn’t that easy. At least there wouldn’t be any people from her past here, hopefully. So, why would this be a struggle for her? She doesn’t know English that well. Grown up in a small town and homeschooled for most of her life, she never learnt much English. Just the easy words like ‘hello’, ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘my name is’ and yada yada.

People around were already starting to get to know one another whilst she just stood there. Like a fake fish in an aquarium. Great. First day couldn’t be more awkward. Taking in a deep breath, she turned and made her way out of the crowds to some lonely table in the far corner. Not like friends are the most important thing here, right? And class doesn’t start for another hour or so. Great. She can’t wait any faster.
